Zvenigorod

Zvenigorod is ancient Russian town which name translates as ringing town, located about 40 km from Moscow.

First it was mentioned in 14 century in 1339. Son of Famous Russian prince Dmitry Donskoy had in Zvenigorod residence. Today the city preserved ancient local Kremlin with beautiful architecture which is worth seeing.

Around Zvenigorod and inside there are many beautiful churches and monasteries, for example cathedral of the Dormition of the Holy Virgin Mary (Yspenski Sobor na Gorodke) where you can find frescoes of famous Russian iconographer Andrey Rublev.

Yelets 

 

Yelets is a small and beautiful province town in Lipetsk Oblast on the Sosna River, which flows into Don. Yelets is very old historical town, first mentioned in 12 century, Firstly it belonged to Ryazan dukes, than was under Mongol invaders. In 15 century it became part of Moscow Grand Duchy

 

In the 19th century Yelets became the largest trade center of the region from handmade crafts to grain milling, machinery and reselling goods.

 

Today it is a beautiful old city with many ancient churches old buildings and nice parks.

Yelets is about 350 km from Moscow on M4 race way.

Volgograd

Volgograd was founded in 16th century was also named Tsarytsyn in 19th century and Stalingrad from1925–1961 in Soviet Period.

Volgograd today is industrial with such industries including shipbuilding, oil refining, steel and aluminum production, hydroelectric plant and many others.

You can arrive here by train or by plane. It will be interesting to see if you want to discover Russian beautiful towns with long interesting story and many historic memories. In town also remained many stylish imperial buildings.

Kostroma

Kostroma is a historic old and famous Russian city part of the Golden Ring of Russian towns. This beautiful city was first mentioned in the beginning of the 13th century. Some historical scientists think that it was founded by Russian prince Yurii Dolgoruky. Later Prince Vasily the Drunkard, Ivan the First, Boris Godunov, Mikhail Romanov ruled Kostroma. This city has very bright and interesting history.

 

For example, Russian national hero peasant Ivan Susanin in winter 1613 saved Tsar Mikhail Romanov and decoyed Polish invaders to impenetrable forests. They killed him but couldn't find way back and died too. Susanin became a symbol of the city's resistance against external threat. Today on Kostroma there are monuments set in his honor. In 16th century Kostroma became one of key Russian trade centers. City has excellent trade connections with European merchants.

 

The city is served by the Kostroma Airport and of course has  a railway station. Today Kostroma preserved many historical important places of interest such as Resurrection church on the Lowlands (Tserkov Voskresenia na Debre) many beautiful buildings and sculptures.

City museum is also must see.

Cruiser Aurora

Aurora - famous Russian protected cruiser, currently preserved as a museum ship in St. Petersburg. It was one of three Pallada-class cruisers, built in St. Petersburg for service in the Pacific. All three ships of this class served during the Russo-Japanese War. Aurora survived at the Battle of Tsushima.

 

 

In 1917 the Aurora's crew took an active part in the February and October revolutionary activities and the Civil War repulsing international intervention. In 1922-1923 the cruiser Aurora became one of the first warships on the Baltic Sea to be put into service as a specialized ship for training. 

In 1948 the cruiser Aurora was moored at the Petrogradskaya embankment of Leningrad and till 1956 was used as a naval training ship by the Leningrad Nakhimov College. 

Voronezh

Voronezh city many centuries ago was a settlement of the Kievan Rus and became trade city of Russia. Voronezh if famous for manufacturing industry and handcraft such as production of bread, soap, butter,  leather and other goods. During World War Voronezh saw severe fighting between Russian and combined Axis troops and was partially destroyed.

 

After World War Voronezh was reconstructed. Today if you come to this city you can visit one of many museums and theatres. For children it is good to check city circus. Voronez has also a well-developed airport and a rail way station.
