Kremlin in Izmailovo – gingerbread style architecture complex
When a foreigner hears word “kremlin”, he or she usually reminds of the Moscow Kremlin, which is definitely one of the most famous, but not the only one referring to this definition. Actually, kremlin ([kreml’] in Russian) means a major fortified central complex found in historic Russian city. There are several Kremlins all around Russia with some of them in Moscow and Moscow region.
In XVII century in Izmailovo there was a residence of the second tsar of the House of Romanov – Alexis I. Izmailovo Kremlin was founded on a hill, there was (and still is) a Silver-Grape pond, where the great son of Alexis I - Peter the Great found the famous botik, which was referred to as the “grandfather of the Russian navy”. External decorations of modern Kremlin reminds us of these pieces of history.
Kremlin in Izmailovo played an essential role in developing history and culture of Russia. In 1974, there was an exhibition of modern vanguard artists – an event that marked the beginning of modern art’s development. Soon afterwards there was formed the famous “Izmailovo Vernissage”, where paintings, antiques, books and pieces of traditional industry were launched for sale for wide public.
Izmailovo Kremlin was given its present appearance with the help of Alexander Ushakov and Marina Alekseeva, who in 2003 presented the idea of creating a Russian culture center in Izmailovo. They had an image of modern Kremlin with its towers, fairground and a pond, an architectural complex that they presented to the government in all its beauty.
Izmailovo Kremlin is located at Partizanskaya metro station, Izmailovo highway 73zh, and it is opened daily from 10:00 to 20:00. Right at the entrance of this cultural and entertainment complex there is a huge map in different languages, indicating all the main places to see depending on the interests of the visitor.
One of the main points of interests in Kremlin is the Church of Saint Nicholas. It was built in early 2000-s, but reminds of traditional building of the XVI-XVII century. The church is notable for being built of wood without using a single nail. It is also supposed to be the tallest wooden building in Russia; its height is 46 meters.
The complex accommodates nine different museums such as Vodka history museum, Museum of bread, History museum of the Russian navy, Museum of toys, Miniature museum “World history made of plasticine”, Museum of chocolate and others. Most of museums provide visitors with thematic shops and workshops. There are several photo zones near beautiful viewpoints, in vintage interiors, in retro café, near the pond area and pavilions, even a special arch for photoshoots. For children there is a playground and a hut of Baba Yaga. Couples may see Tree of Happiness and Wedding Palace at the complex. You can also find two agencies there: “Chudo-Grad” and “Ministry of Joy” that organize everything from children’s parties and excursions to weddings and corporate events on the territory of the Kremlin.
No matter what way of spending you free time you prefer, you may undoubtedly find an activity to your liking at Izmailovo Kremlin.
