Hunting

Hunting was always popular in Russia. From Ivan the Terrible to Peter the Great and Alexander II many Russian Tsars were fond of hunting and had their own favorite areas from Elk Island to Zavidovo forests. In the Soviet period, state-sponsored hunting clubs were formed. Members were allowed to hunt according to the federal rules.

Hunting was always identified with courage and adventures. Bears, wolves, foxes, rabbits, dears and other animals and birds were hunted since medieval epoch. Hounds and horses were also a very important part of hunting since epoch of Grand Duke Vasili III (15th century). In Tsarist Russia it was very popular to hunt with birds for example with falcons. Famous Moscow Sokolniki Park was one of that areas.

If you want to hunt in Russia today you need a special permission for weapons and for the place to go. Sometimes forest rangers accompany you.

Anyway, autumn has come and it means that Russian great bear hunting season has started. Before winter hibernation bears come to oat fields to find some food. The best time for hunting is early morning.  Wolf hunting will start in January and February.

Today modern hunting is a good way to stay together with friends, enjoy our beautiful forests and fields and have a great entertainment out of the city without any intention to kill some birds or animals.

Attention: we recommend saving our nature and not killing animals.
