Smetana

Smetana is traditional Russian fermented milk product, kind of heavy sour cream that most of Russians use in their daily life. We add Smetana as additional but very important ingredient to taste in different salads and soups (like Borsht  famous Russian beat root soup) we eat with Smetana traditional Russian pancakes and cook different sauces.

Smetana has also different fat percentage. 10% Smetana will be very runny, while 60% will be pretty thick. Most popular percentage types you can meet in food stores 15%, 20% and 25%. Average price for Smetana is 0,5-2 dollars for one can. In comparison with another one popular Russian milk product Kefir Smetana has much more calories.

 

According to different polls, most of Russians prefer to buy 20% as it is supposed to be most balanced. Smetana is rich in Calcium and vitamins A, D, B, E, C. Smetana is good for bones, children growth and our digestive organs.
