International Women's Day 8 March

 

International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women's Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year and Russia is not an exception.  During this holiday in Russian cities there are many special celebration events and concerts.  Governmental officials also organize different events for women in order to respect their economic, political and social achievements.

Russians, and especially men, express their love for women their mothers, wives, daughters, girlfriends, friends and colleagues by giving them different presents and gifts. In our country gift tradition is one of the strongest during this holiday. Popular gifts are flowers and chocolate. Most popular flowers are spring flowers- yellow mimosas and tuliops as symbols of spring, beauty and love.

International Women's Day is an official day off in Russia.
